Kévin Germanier
Redress Design Award 2014/15 1st Prize Winner
Bio
Redress Design Award 2014/15 First Prize winner, Kévin Germanier, launched his eponymous brand in 2018, which aims to change the preconceived image of sustainable fashion by creating a glamorous, dazzling and desirable clothing line for modern consumers. All collections are made from up-cycled fabrics, with five of the brands collections to date including up-cycled Swarovski crystals. Retailing on major e-commerce platforms including Matchesfashion.com, Joyce (Hong Kong) and Boontheshop (Korea) and creating iconic looks for celebrities including Björk, Lady Gaga, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Swift, Sunmi, Irene Kim, and virtual fashion influencer Noor Noori, Germanier has successfully gained significant attention from the international retail market. The brand has had multiple sustainable collaborations with Christian Louboutin, and has recently launched a bridalwear line, available exclusively on Matchesfashion.com.
Following his competition win, Kévin returned to Hong Kong to work for three months with the Shanghai Tang design team to create the brand’s first luxury up-cycled collection, which launched in 2016. Before leaving to concentrate on his brand, Kévin worked as a junior designer at Louis Vuitton in Paris, where he currently lives. Kévin holds a degree in Fashion Womenswear from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in the UK.
For me, sustainable fashion is one way of expressing myself. It feels amazing to be able to create clothes and at the same time to protect the planet. As a young and passionate designer, it is very important for me to feel useful. Sustainable fashion challenges me and since I love solving problems, it matches my personality perfectly. I think sustainable fashion is only at the beginning of its real potential and I want to be a sustainable fashion designer in order to experiment, discover and share its unique aspects with others around the world. - Kévin Germanier
Redress Design Award collection
For his Redress Design Award 2014/15 collection (formerly the EcoChic Design Award), Kévin was inspired by the past, present and future of Chinese culture. He combined the up-cycling and reconstruction design techniques to create new garments using surplus army textiles and industrial textile waste.
